For fans of Google Drive, the news the other day seemed alarming: "Google Drive shutting straight down in March! " "Google Drive is dead! "
Um, no. Although Google will plan to modify early next year, the Drive services itself isn't heading anywhere. Rather, it is the Google Drive application that's being terminated, and that is just because it's being replaced. Some tips about what you should know about the continuing future of Drive.

Unless you sync, don't worry
To be clear simply, only the Google Drive applications for Mac and Windows are approaching end-of-life. Which is fine, back July because Google released Back-up and Sync.
But before we explore that further, it's worth noting that lots of users don't even work with Google's desktop apps. Rather, they gain access to Drive in a browser (and on mobile phones and tablets), in which particular case there's no additional sync software program required. If you fall into that camp, this information isn't news at all; nothing at all to see right here, move along.
What's Sync and Backup?
Google's free of charge utility replaces both Drive and Photos desktop applications for Home windows PCs and Macs. You may use Sync and Backup to back again up the contents of your complete computer, or maybe selected folders.
What's Drive File Stream?
The funniest part about last week's Google Get fake news: Google announced the time of Drive's demise in a weblog post for this administrator who offers Google's G Suite productivity tools to employees. Which means this wasn't even designed for everyday consumers.
To further mind off any confusion, let's discuss Drive File Stream, an instrument mentioned in that post. Relating to Google, it's " a fresh desktop application which allows you to quickly gain access to all your Google Drive documents on demand, from your computer directly, meaning you use almost none of your hard disk drive space and spend much less time looking forward to files to sync. "
But, once again, that's something your workplace might roll out; it isn't something you have to worry about on your laptop.
What else is going on with Google Drive?
Support for Google Gets for Home windows /Mac shall expire on Dec. 11, 2017. And the applications will flat-out go wrong (on both systems ) on March 12, 2018. Therefore you've kept a lot of time to create your way to Back-up and Sync -- assuming you have to, you understand, backup and sync.
And that's about any of it. There hasn't been a whole lot of Google Drive information lately -- except the good thing that the service is certainly not going away.
